This year, at the 28th Negros Trade Fair, the organizers again outdo themselves by featuring a new event that will surely tickle everyone’s fancy. To live up to Negrense fame of knowing and creating interesting, scrumptious fare, a group of Negrense chefs will showcase their creativity and innovation through a gastronomic festival.
A challenge is poised to them: create a savory dish from existing Negros food or produce. The key is to innovate and create something never yet done but still retaining the Negrense flavor.
The star-studded chefs parade will feature Manny Torrejon of Manolo’s, Gerald Montelibano of CIBO, JP Anglo of MuShu and Master Chef (Manila), Fernando Aracama of Aracama, Tom Bascon of Bascon CafĂ©, and Richard Ynayan of the Institute of Culinary Arts, University of St. La Salle.
With the theme “Bacolod Dishes with a Twist”, these talented culinary artists will create an appetizer, salad, soup, seafood, poultry/meat, and dessert dishes. Each chef will take one product available at the Negros Trade Fair and whip up something extraordinary.
For an affordable Php 800, lucky patrons will be able to savor these creations and delight in the magic that is Ilonggo cuisine creativity. Further to be featured at this grand dinner will be beautiful table settings using the assortment of products also available at the fair and set by the Designers Guild, headed by Cristina Gaston.

It’s Raining Men… Chefs!

In the 28 years of its existence, the membership of the Association of Negros Producers have grown by leaps and bounds. It has evolved from just 48 founding members to more than 100 today.


Among the new breed of producers that have joined the association are husband and wife team Francine and Chin Chin Uy. True to form of being the new breed, they have established “Fresh Start”, a company that specializes in organically grown produce and other health and other products that are all-natural.
They had a funny start, actually. It was purely be accident. They were first involved in producing machinery and equipment used for vermin-composting to produce natural fertilizers. It was in response to the passing of the waste management law in 2005.

To prove the efficacy of the fertilizers they produced, they had to set up a demo farm in Silay City where they produced high-value crops like lettuce and various herbs. The demand for their produce opened their eyes to an untapped market for organically grown produce. They started with a small farm stand at Sweet Greens in Bacolod City.
With the growing demand for their produce, they cultivated their orchard in Sagay City. They increased their production and was then invited by a popular mall to open a small stall. That was where they saw the great demand for organically grown produce. This is when they established Fresh Start.
Since then Fresh Start has grown and they have started networking with producers of other all-natural products. They now have a wide array of different produce as well as other products that all boast being organically produced.
It was only in 2009 that Fresh Start became a member of the Association of Negros Producers. That was also their first year to participate in the annual trade fair. They started with just a small kiosk and were in fact stormed in on their first year.
Since then, Fresh Start has grown and has now opened a stand-alone restaurant in one of the more popular malls in Bacolod. They serve sandwiches and other dishes using their organically grown produce. Even the coffee and teas they serve are all-natural.
They have been very happy with the results of joining the ANP and the trade fair. Their market has grown and they have seen the potentials of further growth through the exposure the trade fair has provided.
Their success has allowed them to continually expand their operations. In fact, they have already opened their second restaurant in Bacolod and are about to open their restaurant in Manila soon.
With the encouragement and support the ANP provides, the new breed of members like Fresh Start are given the opportunity to grow consistently.

As the Negros Trade Fair celebrates 28 years of existence and success, it comes back to where it all began – Makati City. It was in 1985 that the first trade fair, then known as The House of Negros trade fair, was held at the then QUAD Carpark beside the Manila Garden Hotel. The following year, it was again held in Makati, this time in the Hotel Nikko Manila Garden Hotel itself.
For several years after that, the Negros Trade Fair moved out of Makati and travelled to Pasay City and Mandaluyong, to large venues that could accommodate its fast growing participation and patronage. Every year, the fair just grew and grew.

This year, the 28th holding of the Negros Trade Fair is to be at the prestigious Glorietta Mall. Makati, after all, is Makati – the first and foremost business and commercial district in the Metro.
At the Glorietta mall, visitors to the fair can enjoy more convenient parking, wider aisles so no crowding, and the overall larger venue which can accommodate even more outlets that offer more merchandise that will surely catch your eye. There will be a package counter – a new addition – where shoppers can leave their bags to get even more of the beautiful things on sale. For those who would want to get more information about the province, a tourist pavilion will be set up where the provincial government and some of the cities in the province will have information desks. Lastly, there will be credit card terminals in strategic areas. Convenience through and through.

This homecoming of sorts promises to be even bigger than any of the previous years’ fairs. Back to Makati comes “Evolving Lifestyles since 1985”, the 28th Negros Trade Fair. The theme is apt since the trade fair, the association, and its membership has continued to evolve in the past 28 years. Their eagerness to grow and keep up with the waves of change in design and manufacturing is what has been the key to their longevity and success. And as the years go on, you can be assured that they will continue to keep up with trends: always staying up to date and never out of style.
If you enjoyed those before, there’s no doubt you’ll again fall in love with this year’s exposition. Mark the date: September 25-29, 2013 at the Glorietta Mall Activity Center, Palm Drive.
And, oh yes, when you come to the trade fair, bring your reusable shopping bags. Again, in line with the new awareness of ecology and environment, the association and the trade fair would like to do their share to contribute to saving our environment.

In line with the 28th Negros Trade Fair to be held at the Glorietta Mall Activity Center, Makati City, this September 25-29, 2013, the Association of Negros Producers will be publishing a glossy magazine entitled “Evolving Lifestyles”.

The magazine will give more insight to the sights and sounds of Negros, particularly the different wares and produce that will be available at the trade fair. It will feature producers and their unique wares, the history of the ANP and NTF, as well as a peek into Negrense lifestyle.
The magazine is to be given free to patrons of the trade fair and will also be distributed during the Masskara Festival for which Bacolod is famed for.
Reading through the magazine will give the reader a clearer view of what Negros is all about. It will highlight what the essence of being Negrense – fun loving, creative, laid back, industrious, and most of all, unique.

We introduce the famous Ilonggo men chefs such as JP Anglo of Mushu and Master Chef, Manny Torrejon of Manolo’s, Gerald Montelibano, Fernando Aracama of Aracama, Tom Bascon, and Richard Ynayan. Each of them shall cook a dish using a Negros food product and come up with a “Negros food with a twist” repertoire. Every table will be styled using Negros products. Tickets will be sold for the luncheon to cover part of the costs of producing this activity. The food line-up will be served by the students of Institute of Culinary Arts of La Salle Bacolod, a culinary school of international standards. Limited seats! Tea Time with the Ikebana International
Another first! And to give the fair an international twist, the Ikebana International Manila Chapter will do an Ikebana demonstration, the Japanese Art of Floral Arrangement emphasizing form and balance. The Tagaytay based Flower Farm, of fellow Silaynon Mrs. Ging Severino Delos Reyes, will be providing the flora and foliage while the Negros vase producers will supply them a variety of vases of different sizes and shapes for them to fill and display.

Sabrina’s Kitchen Marathon at the Negros Trade Fair
You couldn’t afford to miss this! This is a cooking demonstration to be hosted by Ilongga Ms. Sabrina Artadi of the popular TV cooking show, Sabrina’s Kitchen. She will be using a variety of ingredients coming from our Negros Producers complemented with the launching of the olive oil variants of Clara Ole.
The second leg of Sabrina’s cooking marathon is the concoction of cocktails and mocktails using the various McCormick flavoring selection. The event will be videotaped and aired in a future edition of the show featured in the Asian Food Channel (AFC).

Back To Where It All Began


As the Negros Trade Fair celebrates 28 years of existence and success, it comes back to where it all began – Makati City. It was in 1985 that the first trade fair, then known as The House of Negros trade fair, was held at the then QUAD Carpark beside the Manila Garden Hotel. The following year, it was again held in Makati, this time in the HOTEL NIKKO Manila Garden Hotel itself.
For several years after that, the Negros Trade Fair moved out of Makati and travelled to Pasay City and Mandaluyong, to large venues that could accommodate its fast GROWINGparticipation and patronage. Every year, the fair just grew and grew.
